"On Tuesday 19 December, we had our third video meeting. Nik gave a detailed analysis of the work submitted, going into every detail. I felt like I was taking part in an academy, even though I realised when I analysed my drawing that I would have easily failed the exam. Fortunately, there are repetitions. We gained so many useful insights for our further artistic and personal growth. Thank you very much, Nik."
"My feedback on yesterday's online meeting:
- I really liked the use of Photoshop tools to show suggestions for improvement. You clearly point out where the student has done something wrong and explain why something is not working, offering a solution or a challenge, which is encouraging.
- I appreciate how you go over the key elements (composition, concept, brightness, highlights, shadow areas, etc.) with each participant. When we hear these points repeatedly, hopefully they stick in our subconscious.
- It is helpful that you comment on sketches, drafts, unfinished work and almost finished versions. There are pitfalls and opportunities at every stage. Watching this with others is probably less painful to the ego than being alone with your own work and facing criticism. The pressure is less than in a one-to-one situation where we are battling with inner voices like 'I knew that but I didn’t see it/I was in a rush/I forgot/I did it thoughtlessly', and so on. - It was great to listen to the dialogue about the sketch. It almost became a crash course on how to plan a painting based on a rough sketch – very interesting and useful. What would I improve? Nothing at the moment, it was perfect. Bonus point: it was wonderful to see familiar faces live, even if it was far away!"
"Hey, the first meeting is over and if I summarise what I took away, it’s that Nik Anikis really takes the time to focus on each participant and gives professional feedback (both positive and negative), explains what could be improved and shows it in Photoshop. I really liked that there was also feedback for others, because at least I could learn a lot from other people's problems and could constantly listen and absorb knowledge. This meeting motivated me so much to create and also the group is great because I honestly can’t remember the last time I was as motivated and eager to improve as I am now. I wish everyone a wonderful day full of creativity and happiness. I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon."
The next monthly meeting is on March 31, 2025, at 6 PM.
